Rick completed his BA in organizational communications and was a Distinguished Military Graduate from the ROTC program at Texas State University, commissioned into the Cavalry in 1989 and retired from the Army in May, 2010. Rick has over two decades of experience as a U.S. Army officer with international service focused on tactical units, operational management and analysis, strategic solutions, budget development, resource stewardship and consequence management in disaster relief. Rick has two deployments into the Middle East covering operational assignments, humanitarian assistance and senior level strategic headquarters assigned to a General Officer. Additionally, Rick has two operational deployments to Europe, where he was forward deployed on the sensitive East-West German border in the early eighties. Professional development includes numerous Defense Support of Civilian Authorities (DSCA) courses and he is a graduate of the Army’s Command and General Staff College. Rick is active in his community in numerous volunteer organizations within the school district, his church and a father to his two children and husband to his wife of eighteen years.
